Union University starting point guard LaTesa McLaughlin (Millington) tied the Union record with 14 assists in the Lady Bulldog’s 75-47 win at Tougaloo (Miss.) on November 30. She ties former Union standout Shea Piercey who recorded 14 assists in a game during the 1987-88 season.

McLaughlin, a 5-foot-5 sophomore from Millington, Tenn., is in her second season with Union. She is averaging 5.5 points per game, but is leading Union with 58 total assists, 5.3 per game. McLaughlin has started all 11 games for Union. In addition to being the leader in assists, she is also one of the top 3-point shooters on the team. McLaughlin is shooting 50 percent from long range, 14-of-28. Her 14 made 3-pointers is good for third on the team.

McLaughlin was named to the TranSouth All-Freshman team last season.

McLaughlin is looking to help Union repeat at TranSouth Regular Season and Tournament champions. She was a key player off the bench last season as Union advanced to their seventh straight NAIA semifinal and fifth title game during that stretch. Union fell just short of winning a third straight national title in 2011.
