Ann Jones second Freshman of the Week honor

Conference USA has named senior guard Brittany Carter as C-USA Player of the Week while teammate Ann Jones (Liberty Tech) collects her second Freshman of the Week honor. The duo guided Memphis to a pair of home wins over Tennessee State and UT Martin last week. Carter averaged 25.0 points per game and shot 64.7 percent from the field. Jones accounted for 8.5 ppg and shot 58.3 percent from the floor. The Tigers are 7-1 on the season and own a five game winning streak.

Carter averaged 25.0 points, 7.5 steals, 2.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 64.7 percent from the floor and 57.1 percent from 3-point range in home wins over Tennessee State and UT Martin. She also committed just three turnovers on the week for a 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio. The C-USA Preseason Player of the Year, Carter posted back-to-back 20-plus point games. She scored 23 points and shot 56.3 percent from the field against TSU, followed by scoring 27 points with a career-high nine steals versus UT Martin. The nine steals ranks fifth in the Memphis single-game record book. This is Carter's second career Player of the Week honor.

Jones averaged 8.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Memphis wins last week. The freshman shot 58.3 percent from the floor and posted a career-high nine points with five rebounds, including four offensive, in a 90-69 win over UT Martin, 011 NCAA tournament participant. Jones also had eight points and two rebounds with two assists in a win over Tennessee State. This is her second Freshman of the Week honor for 2011-12.
