Briarcrest girls capture Division 2-AA West Region title

When you have lost to a team five consecutive times, winning is even sweeter. It feels like redemption, especially when there is a championship in the mix.

The Briarcrest Christian Lady Saints broke a 0-5 steak Thursday with a hard fought, 54-50, victory over St. Benedict to claim the 2-AA West regional championship. The game was played at The Ross McCain Lynn Arena on the campus of MUS.

“St. Benedict has had our number for the last two seasons,” said Briarcrest coach Lee Smith. “It is great to get the victory. Our girls really wanted this one. It is an important win because it impacts our tournament seeding.”
