Millington and St. Benedict faced off for the Collierville High Dragon Fire Invitational 2008 Tournament Championship. It started off sloppy with both teams committing turnovers on their first possessions. Symone Daniels scored the first 2 points of the game for St. Benedict and was on fire throughout the first quarter scoring 9 points. Latesa McLaughlin held it down for Millington scoring 10 in the first including 2 three pointers. The first quarter ended tied 16.
Neither team was able to score until the 5:15 mark in the second quarter. The defense was relentless by both squads. And St. Benedict made sure someone was always glued to Jasmine Newsome of Millington. During the first half, St. Benedict had already went 13 players deep in their rotation. At halftime, Millington led 23-22.
Symone Daniels (21), Sophomore Post St. Benedict
Michelle Brown, Senior Post, Millington
Early in the third quarter, Millington's Tamarah Brandon committed her 4th foul and had to sit down forcing Millington to go to their bench. Junior Deanna Jeffries and 6'3 sophomore Misha Jones came in and gave some valuable minutes. Inspite of the foul trouble, Millington turned up the defensive heat and St. Benedict had a couple of costly mental lapses helping Millington to increase the lead. Fourth quarter was all Millington winning the game 51-37.
