Ten players from the Shelby-Metro area have been named finalists for the TSSAA Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards.
Memphis has two finalists in AAA boys, where senior Cameron Golden of top-ranked Ridgeway and junior Jajuan Johnson of Southwind are joined by Clarksville Northeast’s Alex Poythress.
Memphis also has two finalists in Division 2-A girls and 2-A boys, as Harding Academy junior Kaylah Keys and freshman Kaylan Pugh of St. Mary’s are joined by Derica Wyatt of Franklin Road Academy in D2-A girls.
In D2-A boys, freshman Skal Labissiere of Evangelical Christian School and junior Cameron Payne of Lausanne are finalists along with last year's winner John Ross Glover of University School of Jackson.
The other area finalists are senior Martavious Newby of Booker T. Washington (Class A boys), junior Austin Nichols of Briarcrest (Division 2-AA boys), junior Nina Davis of Central (Class AAA girls) and senior Lauren Douglas of Briarcrest (Division 2-AA girls).
Keys, Newby and Nichols are repeat finalists from last season.
The awards will be handed out at the BlueCross state tournaments, starting with next week’s Division 2 championships in Nashville.
