Rice freshman Christal Porter, from Germantown High School, was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week after helping lead the Owls to a pair of wins last week, including Sunday’s upset against UTEP.
Porter, a 6-foot forward, averaged nine points in the two wins. Against Houston, Porter had 10 points and six rebounds. And in helping Rice deal UTEP its first C-USA loss of the season, Porter had eight points and a team-high six rebounds. It is her second freshman of the Week honor this season.
Rice (15-13, 9-6) will host Memphis (22-6, 12-3 C-USA) in Thursday’s regular season finale.
