Kiara Golden Guard 2014 Class Double Play Highlights

Center Hill senior guard, Kiara Golden, is the first player to have before and after highlights on Memphis Girls Basketball. If you have been watching her play over the years, you will know why. She has definitely grown.

Kiara is a lefty. In her first highlight video (as an 8th grader), I noticed how much she went left. However, I didn't notice how much she went to her strong side until after watching the second highlight  (as a senior). In her second video, she's constantly going right.

It is an unfortunate trend to watch highly talented players enter high school only to regress over the years. Kiara is not an example of that. She has grown in so many ways.

I've already mentioned her abilities to go left and right. She is also a scorer and a distributor. She has awesome vision in the half court set and in transition. She is an unbelievable team player. Kiara can easily average 30-40 points a game. However, she would rather get her teammates involved. While she's not in the game, it's not uncommon to see her standing up cheering her team on.

 Senior Highlight (#3 White)

8th Grade Highlight (#3 White)

Dyer County issues a challenge to Munford

 image and article from Millington-News.com

Munford's Phenicia Howard dribbles pass Dyer County defender

The last couple of years the Munford Lady Cougars have been the dominant queens of District 13-3A.

Winning two league champions and a Region title in that span, many experts were picking the Lady Cougars to make it three in row prior to the start of the 2013-14 campaign.

But the Dyer County Lady Choctaws traveled to the Munford Gymnasium last Friday night to issue a challenge for the top spot in District 13-3A. Dyer County left an impression winning 48-36.

The Lady Choctaws victory started off slow with Munford leading 6-5 after one quarter. Lady Cougar Phenicia Howard and Lindsey Owen scored the final two buckets for Munford in the opening frame to get the lead.

Dyer County opened the second quarter on a 12-0 run to take a 17-6 advantage. Alex Wherry ended Munford’s drought with a jumper in the lane. The Lady Choctaws were ahead 19-8 at the break.
The offense picked up for both teams in the third quarter the Lady Cougars outscoring Dyer County 16-11. Howard was the shooting star for Munford in the period.

The guard scored on a layup and jumper in the lane to make the score 21-14 early in the third. Then Howard displayed her long-range shooting nailing a trey to make the tally 23-17.

After Howard used a spin moved to hit a jumper in the paint the Lady Cougars trailed 23-20. Munford got to within a point when Precious Mills drove to the rim and bounced a pass to Owen for a layup.

Dyer County responded with a 7-2 run to close out the third quarter to lead 30-24.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Choctaws hit timely three-pointer to neutralize any Munford comeback effort. Dyer County only led 30-27 in the early moments of the fourth. Then the Lady Choctaws outscored the Lady Cougars 18-9 for the 12-point victory.

Lausanne Lynx back Pat

 Article from Commercial Appeal

Friday's girls basketball game between Nashville Father Ryan and Lausanne will be a "We Back Pat" game to raise money and awareness for the Pat Summitt Foundation, which fights Alzheimer's disease.

Summitt, the legendary University of Tennessee women's basketball coach, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2011. The game will be the first of its kind in West Tennessee.
The Lausanne-Summitt connection dates back to 1993 when Lausanne coach Lesa Mears was coaching at Harding and took her team to play in an AAU tournament at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. Summitt was recruiting Mears' star player, Nikki White, who opted to sign with Kansas instead.

White is now Mears' assistant at Lausanne.

Both Lausanne and Father Ryan will wear purple "We Back Pat" T-shirts. Bracelets with the foundation's "Fierce Courage" motto will be handed out and there will be a half-court shooting contest at halftime with prizes including a basketball autographed by Summitt and autographed copies of her book.

The game is part of the Lynx Holiday Classic, which concludes Saturday at Lausanne. Below is a full schedule.

Friday
6 p.m.: Nashville Father Ryan girls vs. Lausanne (We Back Pat game)
7:30 p.m.: Brighton vs. Lausanne
9 p.m.: Little Rock McClellan vs. Chattanooga Tyner

Saturday
