Jasbriell Swain (Horn Lake) Granted NCAA Waiver for Memphis Women's Basketball

Senior guard Jasbriell Swain has been granted an NCAA waiver of the transfer rule and is eligible immediately to play for the University of Memphis women's basketball team. Swain played the last three seasons at Binghamton University and was a member of the American East All-Defensive Team last year after appearing in all 30 games with 29 starts.

"Jasbriell Swain will suit up for us first at Wright State," head coach Melissa McFerrin said. "We're excited. She is a fourth-year Division I player who came back to Memphis because of some health issues in her family. We were hoping to get her cleared for opening weekend. It didn't happen until Monday of this week, but she is a defensive presence, she is a rebounding presence, she is a slashing presence, she is a lane runner presence, she just brings the work ethic and experience of a fourth year, Division I player. And Binghamton has had some success. That's not a name that we know really well in the South here, but on the East Coast, Binghamton is a name you know. They win and they produce a pretty good basketball team year in and year out, so we're excited to have Jasbriell Swain in uniform and she's obviously very excited."

A graduate of Horn Lake High School in Mississippi, Swain was a three-year letterwinner at Binghamton. As a freshman, she was named the America East Rookie of the Year and was named to the All-Rookie team after finishing third on the team in points (8.6 ppg) and assists (2.1 apg).
As a sophomore, she appeared in 29 games with 27 starts, averaging 6.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. She followed that with a junior campaign that saw her named to the All-America East Defensive team after averaging 8.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.6 steals a game. She recorded four double-doubles in her senior season, posting 11 games with double-digit rebounds.

Swain played her prep basketball at Horn Lake, where she helped the team to a Mississippi Class 6A state title in her senior year, earning MVP honors at the state tournament. She averaged 20 points, six rebounds and three assists her senior year and was a three-year Bank Plus Player of the Year.

The daughter of Yolanda Kemp, Swain transferred back to Memphis to be closer to her family after last season and joined the Memphis team as a walk on once school started this fall. She will have one season of eligibility left with the Tigers, who start play in the American Athletic Conference this year.
