Ridgeway fared better in the girls game, winning 73-63. But Roadrunners coach Rhonda Kendall said the performance of her team — which lost in the AAA state title game last year — left a lot to be desired.
“I don’t think we played well at all,” she said. “I’m with these players all week and I know what they’re capable of doing ... We were out of synch.
“Last year is in the past. We have to come in every day and work hard.”
Brandi Beasley scored 25 to lead Ridgeway (4-0), which outscored White Station 21-8 in the final quarter. Breoaunna Humphrey added 18, while Oreonna Brown made a big 3-pointer late to finally help put the Spartans away. Emanye Robertson led White Station with 24, while Damiah Griffin chipped in with 17.
Extra, Extra
Taylor Barnes scored 14 as St. Benedict’s girls handed Northpoint (5-1) its first loss of the year, 58-54 in overtime.
