Kourtney Coleman signs with Troy University

H.W. Byers (Holly Springs, MS) senior, Kourtney Coleman, signed her paperwork on the first day of the signing period with Troy University. Kourtney is a multi-position player standing over 6 feet. She can bring the ball up the court, shoot the three, post in the paint and grab boards. She will be a nice addition to the Troy program.


Kourtney lead the 2-time Mississippi state champions, H. W. Byers, in scoring last season with 16.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. She is also a member of the Memphis Lady Magic travel squad.

Hamilton High girls basketball standout Malynda Hull has signed to play next season at Southern Polytechnic, an NAIA school in Marietta, Ga. Hull, a 5-9 shooting guard, is a 3.5 student.

Hasina Muhammad makes it Official

I have to admit this is one event I hate I missed. I can personally say that the Muhammad family is one of the most giving families I have every been around. Its always a joy to come into a gym and see Mrs. Muhammad with her latest book. Mr. Muhammad with his camera. Big Brother Muhammad behind the camcorder. And  Ayanna and Hasina Muhammad on the floor. It is truly a family affair!!

If you have followed Hasina throughout her career, you know she has literally blossomed into a super star. For a young lady so shy and soft spoken, you would not believe the things she can do on the court.

Congratulations on officially becoming an Auburn Tiger!!!

 

Hasina Muhammad didn't waste any time signing her national letter of intent on the first day of the signing period. The Ridgeway High girls basketball standout signed with Auburn during ceremonies at the school.

"I'm blessed and thankful," she said. "I'm ready to get it over with. Sometimes (the process) was stressful ... but I enjoyed it."

The versatile Muhammad, a six-footer who can play guard or forward with ease, is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the state according to ESPN Hoopgurlz. She averaged 16 points per game last season, shooting an area-best 60.5 percent from the floor.

"It's huge," said Roadrunners coach Tonya Willett. "Obviously when a young lady from Memphis signs with an SEC program, that means a lot for Memphis basketball. She's paving the way.

"I don't think Hasina is going to go down there and just play ... we expect good things."

Sarah Watkins helps Arkansas win Exhibition

Recently, The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team picked up an 80-58 exhibition game win over Missouri Southern in Bud Walton Arena.

Junior Lynsday Harris led all scorers with 16 points followed by 15 from junior C’eira Ricketts and 12 from sophomore Sarah Watkins (former Houston standout). Freshman Keira Peak had 10 rebounds in the win.

LaTosha Laws Lead Ole Miss In Exhibition Victory

Junior LaTosha Laws (former Northside standout) and freshman Pa’Sonna Hope helped the Ole Miss women’s basketball team to an 86-36 exhibition game win over the University of West Georgia Thursday night.

Laws finished the game with 19 points while Hope recorded a double-double and finished with 20 points on eight of nine shooting from the floor and 10 boards.

Symone Daniels signs with Drake

Today, November 10, 2010, marks the beginning of the early signing period, where high school athletes who have previously given verbal commitments can make it official by putting their names on the dotted line. The period runs through Nov. 17,

Symone Daniels of St. Benedict signed her National Letter of Intent today to play college basketball for Drake. On hand for the festivities were the SBA basketball staff, (back row-from left) Don Williams, team statistician, assistant coach Caitlin Doyle and head women’s coach Don Sebren.
