Logan's fourth quarter play lifts West Memphis girls to win at state

 from Commercial Appeal

Held to only one point through three quarters, West Memphis' Raquel Logan scored 14 of her game-high 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lady Devils to a 46-23 victory over Bryant Thursday in a Class 7A state basketball tournament first-round game.

Logan, a 6-foot senior center and the team's leading scorer, was held in check for three quarters by a stifling Bryant zone, led by 6-1 senior Whitney Meyer. However, Meyer was sent to the bench early in the fourth quarter after collecting her fourth foul and that was all Logan needed to get going.
The West Memphis girls outscored Bryant 18-0 in the final 5:39 of the game.

"As we talked about in that (fourth-quarter) timeout, better late than never," said West Memphis head coach Shelia Burns. "Once (Logan) hit that first one, everything just seemed to fall into place for her."

The Lady Devils (20-9) will play Springdale Har-Ber Friday night at 7 in a quarterfinal game.

While Logan struggled to get it rolling, the Lady Devils got some crucial production from sophomore Alexis Hamlet, who scored 14 points, and junior Danisha Turner, who scored a season-high 10.
Logan was a terror on the defensive end, where she snatched a game-high 10 rebounds, 3 blocked shots and several others that were altered.

The Lady Devils outrebounded Bryant 34-20.
