Her team's season ended with a disappointing loss, but there was a little redemption Saturday for Jasmine Cincore.
The Briarcrest junior standout was named Miss Basketball for Division
2-AA, beating out Kennesha Echols and Justice Swett of Nashville
Ensworth.
"I just worked so hard," Cincore said. "This just means so much to
me. My teammates and my coaches believe in me so much, it just makes me
want to work that much harder.
"I feel like I got what I deserved."
In her first season at Briarcrest, the 5-7 Cincore averaged 15
points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game while leading the
Saints to a 27-2 record that included a 26-game winning streak. The
Saints' season ended Thursday with a disappointing loss to Brentwood
Academy in the state semifinals, but Cincore said Saturday's honor took
away a little bit of the sting.
"It does," she said. "I definitely would have wanted to (win a
championship). You always want something bigger. But I'm very happy."
