Nina Davis is a 6-foot-1 senior forward at Memphis Central (Tenn.),
the No. 52 prospect in the 2013 class and a Baylor commit. Davis shares
some of her secrets in this edition of “Meet the Prospects.”
Nickname: Nina Bena or just Bena. It really doesn't have a
meaning, but when I was about 8 people started calling me that and it
never faded away.
Pick a number: I wear jersey No. 13 because it has always
brought me luck. I know people always say number 13 is bad luck, but I
feel the complete opposite. I even feel lucky on Friday the 13th.
Other than basketball, what is your favorite hobby? Although I’m not the best singer, one of my favorite hobbies would have to be singing.
If you could go one-on-one with anyone, who would it be? I would
have to say Kobe Bryant. I have always looked up to him growing up. I
love the determination in his eyes when he's on the court. I love the
way, whenever his team is down or they need the winning shot, he's
always up for challenge.
If you had to compare your game to a current college or pro player, who would it be?
I would compare my game to Tamika Catchings because of her ability to
attack the goal, how hard she plays from tip to buzzer and her mental
toughness.
Who is your role model? My parents are my role models. They're
always there for me through the good and the bad. If I need a shoulder
to cry on, a hug or to be told I'm in the wrong I know they will be
there for me. I couldn't imagine my life without them. I love them to
death!
What is the most important thing basketball fans should know about you? Basketball is more to me than just a game. Basketball has taught me many life lessons.
What is your favorite basketball moment so far? One of my
favorite basketball moments would have to be winning the state
championship my sophomore year and being the state’s MVP. Hopefully this
year I can win another state championship.
The King and I: LeBron James wishes he could … win championships as well as I can!
