Memphis Asianna Fuqua-Bey Named C-USA Freshman of the Week
Freshman post Asianna Fuqua-Bey (Chicago, Ill./Marist HS) was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week after averaging a double-double of 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the University of Memphis last week.
Against Houston, Fuqua-Bey made her second start of the season and finished with a career-best 10 rebounds and scored seven points. In a home win against Southern Miss, the freshman helped the Tigers offset the loss of leading scorer Nicole Dickson to foul trouble three minutes into the opening stanza by scoring 14 first half points to help Memphis build a 37-21 halftime lead. The 14 points tied a career high that the freshman set in a win at Seton Hall, and she improved on her career rebounding high from the Houston game by finishing with 11 rebounds against Southern Miss, her first collegiate double-double. She also shot 83.3 percent from the free-throw line for the week, hitting 5-of-6 attempts from the stripe.
This is her first career honor from Conference USA and is the third consecutive week that Memphis has had a player claim C-USA Freshman of the Week honors.
