Senior forward Nicole Dickson
was named the C-USA Player of the Week after netting a career-high 36
points in a 76-74 road win at Illinois State, Sunday, in the final round
of the Preseason WNIT. This is Dickson's first career weekly honor from
the league office.
Dickson helped Memphis overcome the loss of starting guards Mooriah Rowser and Ariel Hearn
late in the first half due to injury and foul trouble by taking on the
scoring burden herself. Between the last half of the first and the early
minutes of the second half, she reeled off 18 consecutive points,
helping Memphis hold off a Redbirds' team in front of a vocal home
crowd.
The Greeneville, Tenn., native was the game's leading scorer, and
was the Tigers' second-leading rebounder, finishing with 36 points,
eight rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots. She was also a
perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Dickson and her Tigers' teammates remain on the road, finishing
out a season-high three-game road swing at Texas-Arlington on Wednesday
night. The Tigers return home to the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Sunday,
at 2 p.m., when they host 2012 NCAA participants Prairie View A&M.
