The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs used runs of 10-0 and 15-1 in the first 11 minutes to put Rust away early in a 60-41 win Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored the first five points of the game to put the Lady Bucs (2-5) ahead for good. Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) followed with a three-point play, and a Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) layup gave the Lady Bucs a 10-0 lead just over three minutes into the game. After Rust (4-6) scored the next seven points to pull within three, the Lady Bucs exploded for a 15-1 run to pull away for good, with a Green triple giving them a 25-8 lead with 9:29 remaining in the opening half. The Bearcats never came closer than 12 points again.
Ridgell and Green posted game-highs of 17 points each, and Ridgell matched Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) with a game-high eight rebounds. Amber Williams (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) collected six rebounds, five blocks, and three steals in 25 minutes.
