2012 Memphis Elite Camp Recap

I had the opportunity to check out part of the 2012 Melissa McFerrin Hoop School Elite Camp.  Some of the Memphis area players that I recognized were Laka Blache (Whitehaven/Memphis Elite-Holmes), Leigha Conley (Ridgeway), Khadejah Stevens (Trezevant/Memphis Bobcats), Janeka Williams (East/Tri State Elite), Erin Wilson (Southwind/ Memphis Bobcats), Amber Holmes (Southwind/Memphis Elite-Holmes), and Shandricka Sessom (Byhalia/Mississippi Glory).

During a position skill session, Amber Holmes looked very comfortable using both her left and right hand. She also shocked me with her strength and ability to get out of a trap of 2 huge post players during a 5 on 5 session. The first impression when you watch Shandricka Sessom is her slender build and her ultra athleticism. However, you will be equally impressed with her fundamental skills and I love her step back move. I haven't seen Khadejah Stevens play since before she entered high school and she played in the post. However, this summer I have seen her 3 times, including this camp, and she has been on the perimeter. With long arms and a slender build, I think it is a nice transition for this athletic lefty.   I have always enjoyed watching Laka Blache energy during games. But today was the first time I have actually stood next to her and she is huge. She already has a college ready body. I finally got to see H W Byer's Justice Martin (Mississippi Glory) and I like what I saw. If you leave her wide open, she will knock down the 3. She looks strong and is very aggressive. But what I liked most about her, was how vocal she was on the court.
